Solid Sheets

PLEXIGLAS® solid sheets are available as cast acrylic - PLEXIGLAS® GS - and extruded acrylic, PLEXIGLAS® XT.

Although PLEXIGLAS® GS and PLEXIGLAS® XT sheets are two different products obtained by different manufacturing methods, which therefore also differ in some of their fields of application, yet there are similarities between them as far as their properties are concerned.

PLEXIGLAS® GS Solid Sheets

  • cast acrylic
  • unexcelled weather resistance
  • highly transparent (clear sheet: 92% light transmission)
  • excellent surface quality
  • easy to machine
  • break-resistant
  • withstand higher thermal and chemical stress than PLEXIGLAS® XT
  • available in clear, white, many colors and frosty (SATINICE)
  • burns more or less like hardwood; very little smoke generation; combustion gases are non-toxic and non-corrosive (see Fire behavior)

PLEXIGLAS® XT Solid Sheets

  • extruded acrylic
  • unexcelled weather resistance
  • highly transparent (clear sheet: 92% light transmission)
  • excellent surface quality
  • easy to machine
  • break-resistant
  • close thickness tolerances
  • available in clear, white, colored, frosty (SATINICE) and textured
  • burns more or less like hardwood; very little smoke generation; combustion gases are non-toxic and non-corrosive (see Fire behavior)

Manufacturing of PLEXIGLAS® GS Solid Sheets

PLEXIGLAS® GS sheets are manufactured by casting liquid methyl methacrylate (MMA) between two plates of glass. The MMA polymerizes, i.e. cures, inside the cell. The techniques we employ are polymerization in a water bath, in a hot-air oven and by the Rostero process.

Manufacturing of PLEXIGLAS® XT Solid Sheets

PLEXIGLAS® XT sheets are manufactured from prepolymerized polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) pellets. These are homogenized in an extruder and then extruded by appropriate tools into solid sheets, multi-skin and corrugated sheets, but also into tubes and rods.

Natural protection against yellowing and loss of light transmission

PLEXIGLAS® is completely protected against UV radiation by the NATURALLY UV-STABLE Technology.
